FRISCO, TEXAS — Cowboys’ Amari Cooper had a limited workload in practice late in training camp but the team’s stellar wide out is ready to suit up on Sunday for the season opener against the Rams in Los Angeles.
“ I feel good, “ Cooper remarked to media via conference call. “ I was able to become a full participant the last couple of practices and now be able to do everything. I feel really good going into the game. “
The pro bowl receiver was listed on the practice report with a hamstring injury but he noted, “ It’s football…it’s not about not getting hurt or not getting nicked. It’s about how you deal with them, come back from them or play through them.”
With unprecedented times during the COVID-19 pandemic and the wear and tear of a season, the staff limited his reps the last few weeks as more of a precautionary measure than anything to keep their No.1 receiver fresh for the upcoming season. The front office as well as Mike McCarthy made it clear that he was kept on the sidelines based on more of a preventative to injury than him battling one. Regardless, he is projected to take the field in L.A.
Cooper’s innate ability to create separation will be a bonus heading into Sunday’s matchup as the Cowboys face a Rams’ secondary with shutdown cornerback Jalen Ramsey.
“ I think he’s a real good player, “ Cooper stated on Ramsey. “ He has all the intangible assets that you would want in a cornerback, fast, long, can cover, and has good ball skills. It’s always a challenge but exciting at the same time.”
There are a lot of unknowns surrounding teams this season with an entirely virtual offseason and no preseason games, and all teams have an advantage with a significant level of mystery on formation/scheme. One thing is for certain, both Cooper and Ramsey will be two star players to watch come Sunday!
