FRISCO, TEXAS — Once gain it seems the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive line cannot catch a break with injuries piling up. Dallas’ O-Line took another blow this week.
Left tackle Brandon Knight had knee surgery on Tuesday and will likely miss at least two weeks per head coach Mike McCarthy. He suffered the injury in Monday night’s 38-10 loss against the Arizona Cardinals. Knight had consistently been the replacement starter at left tackle for seven-time Pro Bowl player Tyron Smith, who was placed on injured reserve for a neck injury that needed season-ending surgery.
In addition on Monday, right guard Zack Martin suffered a concussion in the first half after taking a hit to the head and was sidelined the remainder of the game. As the six-time pro bowl veteran goes through the league’s concussion protocol, his status for Sunday’s game against Washington is questionable at this point.
McCarthy told reporters on Martin, “This is something that won’t be resolved here in the next couple of days for sure. It will definitely be at the end of the week.”
Connor McGovern came in for Martin at right guard against Arizona. McCarthy did not go into detail on who will be filling Knight’s spot at left tackle, but stated, “I think it’s important for us to try to get some continuity. If Zack can’t go, then obviously Connor McGovern will go there and then we’ve just got to figure out the left tackle position. That’ll start tomorrow.”
The good news, swing tackle Cameron Erving is likely to be back. He is still on injured reserve but recently began the 21-day practice window to return. Erving had been dealing with an illness following the knee injury, but he is expected to work back into practice. Offensive tackle Greg Senat is a depth option for the team currently on the active roster.
The shuffle will continue for the O-Line plagued by injury. The team is currently without all of the intended starters at the outset of the season, besides left guard Connor Williams. Right tackle La’el Collins was placed on injured reserve due to hip surgery and undrafted rookie Terence Steele has predominately been the starter at right tackle for Collins. Then starting center Joe Looney was also placed on IR with a sprained knee and rookie Tyler Biadasz has been his replacement at center the previous two games.
Let the game of musical chairs commence!
