LB Sean Lee and CB Chidobe Awuzie On Track to Return Sunday

FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys’ defense has allowed the most points per game this season (34.7) in the league and fortunately, the team will likely see the return of two key playmakers from injured reserve in week eight against the Eagles.

Mike McCarthy confirmed on Wednesday that both linebacker Sean Lee and cornerback Chidobe Awuzie would practice.

“ I think Chido is in a really good spot. Just the last two weeks, watching him on the other field. So I look for him to practice today and hopefully be ready to go Sunday.”

Barring any setbacks, Lee will likely suit up on Sunday as well.

“ We are going to play to Sean’s experience, “ McCarthy remarked to reporters. “ He has been in every meeting, every walk through. The only thing is Sean hasn’t participated in was game day and that was because he was not allowed to with COVID restrictions. So, I look for Sean to practice toady and hopefully he gets through the week clean and I see him possibly being ready for Sunday night.”

Awuzie has missed the last four games after suffering a hamstring injury in week two. Lee has not played in 2020 after having core muscle surgery. Both have entered the 21-day practice window and can be activated at any time.

The Cowboys need all the help they can muster on defense after a lackluster performance by the squad through the first seven weeks of the season. With Lee’s return, Dallas will have additional veteran help in the middle filling gaps and limiting running backs or quarterbacks that break to the second level, and Chido provides much needed assistance on the back end with a secondary struggling with eye discipline in coverage.
