FORT WORTH – After giving up only 16 points in the first half, the Horned Frogs came out on top over Houston Baptist 69-45. TCU wins their first game of the 2020-21 season.
TCU (1-0) came out hot in the first half getting up early on the Huskies (0-1) 15-0. Freshman guard Mike Miles started the night off perfect, shooting 4-for-4 with an immediate eight points in the first half. He led the Horned Frogs offense with 13 points and five assists.
The Horned Frogs shot 46 percent from the floor in the first half. TCU’s man to man defense shut out the Huskies offense and kept them scoreless the first seven minutes of the game. The Huskies struggled creating any offense and shot only 19 percent from the floor in the first half. TCU went into the locker room up 38-16.
The second half was no different. TCU continued to crash the boards hard, creating second chance opportunities on offense. HBU struggled creating any offensive looks and got out rebounded.TCU dominated the glass, out rebounding HBU 44-31, leaving HBU’s offense in a lot of one-and-done offense situations. Forward Kevin Samual led TCU with 10 rebounds.
TCU ended the night shooting 45 percent from the floor and 26 percent beyond the arc. Not bad for their first game back since March 11.TCU’s offense was a team effort as nine TCU players got on the board. Chuck O’Bannon, the transfer out of USC, had 11 points and nine rebounds for his first game as a Horned Frog. Taryn Todd and PJ Fuller also had eight points individually.
HBU only shot 32 percent from the floor and 23 percent beyond the arc. Pedro Castro for the Huskies ended the night with a double-double. He had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
TCU will take Thanksgiving off before heading on the road on Friday to Kansas City for the Hall of Fame Classic. TCU will be taking on the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes on Saturday Nov 28 at 7:30 pm CST.
