ARLINGTON, Texas — With the 2021 MLB season beginning April 1st Rangers owner Ray Daniels doesn’t plan to spend much money which is mainly due to the havoc the pandemic caused.
The lower payroll may not be a problem though, as Daniels is focusing more on adding younger athletes to the team and trading for some.
“This season is ultimately going to be marked by us moving into a youth movement,” Daniels said.
After an 8 game losing streak in August, the focus became on acquiring young athletes.
“They are fun to watch. They are full of enthusiasm”. Daniels stated.
After being ranked No. 29 which is first to last in batting stats and finishing last in RBI, with a lower payroll the Rangers should focus more on the Offensive side and acquire athletes to help put points on the board.
A big move that could happen for the Rangers and any team in conversation is the Lance Lynn trade, Lynn wasn’t dealt to any team before the August 31st deadline because no demands were met.
Lynn is left with an $8 million contract for the 2021 season which could be a great trade for either team. It allows the opposing team to acquire a pitcher with a low-value contract and the Rangers could acquire whatever they feel is the missing piece to future success.
The Rangers have recently added two starting pitchers and a catcher to their 40-man roster right before the reserve list was due.
To rebuild for the future the young athletes have to have immense talent, as well as be ready to contribute to two of the best ( voted by the people) at their position – Kiner Falefa and Joey Gallo. Or the process will take a little longer.
The Rangers have now released their spring schedule in which their opponent is the Kansas City Royals on Feb. 27 at Surprise stadium maybe then we’ll see what’s happened behind the scenes.
