KANSAS CITY, MO — Kevin Samuel’s 16 points and 18 rebounds led TCU (2-0) to a 70-65 win over Tulsa (0-1) in the first round of the Hall of Fame Classic.
The Golden Hurricanes came out strong scoring the first 12 points going on a 18-5 run in the first half.
Tulsa went up on TCU 18-8 with 11:03 left in the half, their largest lead of the night.The Horned Frogs fought back hitting four straight 3-pointers and going on a 14-0 run taking thelead for the rest of the game.
TCU made five of six from the free-throw line in the final minute to seal the win. TCU went19-30 on the night shooting 63 percent from the line.TCU continues to crash the boards hard and out-rebound their opponent. TCU had 16 points offsecond chance opportunities while Tulsa only had six points.
The Horned Frogs leading scorers for the night were Kevin Samuel with 16 points, Mike Mileswith 12 points, and Francisco Farabello with 10 points.
This is TCU’s third consecutive win against Tulsa.Brandon Rachel had 19 points and 8 rebounds for the Golden Hurricanes.
Embery-Simpson finished with 14 points for his first game as a Golden Huricane. Joiner finished with 10 points,seven rebounds, and five assists.TCU heads into the championship Sunday to play Liberty at 2:30 pm CST.
