FRISCO, Texas — Unusual times call for unusual measures. The Dallas Cowboys will have a unique film session on Wednesday after the team’s practice.
Dallas was granted another bye week essentially after the club’s game against the Ravens was re-scheduled from Thursday to Tuesday due to a COVID outbreak in Baltimore. The Cowboys had a “lighter” than normal practice on Wednesday and held meetings virtually to abide by the COVID-19 protocols.
However, there is an abundance of room at the team’s headquarters in Frisco to have the mandated social distancing in place to allow in-person meetings. The Cowboys will watch the Steelers-Ravens game live at the Star by position groups in preparation for the square off.
“ Frankly, you never really have an opportunity to watch your next opponent play live after an installation day, “ Mike McCarthy told media via conference call.
“ We spent today on normal down and distance and third down, so to be able to watch them play live, I think will be a benefit if we did it together. I thought it’s a unique opportunity. We’ve all watched Monday Night games before but rarely do you get to watch a game live after two days into your preparation.”
The Ravens have had a good portion of the salary cap on the Reserve/COVID-19 list in recent days with 12 players and eight members of Baltimore’s staff testing positive for the virus over the past eight days, including quarterback Lamar Jackson.
The biggest thing the Cowboys will be watching this afternoon in the Pittsburgh-Baltimore game is the personnel.
“You’re going to attack your opponent from a similar platform, but utilization of personnel is really the question that we’ll obviously look at today when they play Pittsburgh. But I feel like our personnel department has done a really good job trying to track the personnel of who may be next week and so forth. That’s really what the big question will be as we move forward.”
On Thursday, the Cowboys will take part in a virtual memorial service for Markus Paul, the team’s strength and conditioning coordinator that passed away last week following a medical emergency. The Paul family will be at the church during the service.
