FRISCO, Texas — On Thursday, The Dallas Cowboys placed cornerback Chidobe Awuzie on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, according to the league’s transactions report.
The NFL does not specify whether each player on the list tested positive for the virus or came in contact with someone who has it.
Awuzie spent six games this season on the Reserve/Injured list with a hamstring injury but had started the previous three. He has accumulated 23 tackles; three pass breakups, and one interception this season.
The Cowboys’ cornerback group is dwindling. Rookie Trevon Diggs is on the Reserve/Injured list with a fractured foot and Anthony Brown (ribs) was limited in practice last week on Thursday and Friday that kept him off the field in week 13 against the Ravens. Brown was a limited participant in practice this week on Wednesday and Thursday ahead of Sunday’s matchup with Cincinnati.
The NFL’s transactions page also designated center Tyler Biadasz as able to return to practice, beginning his 21-day practice window off injured reserve. Bidasz injured his hamstring during pregame warm-ups in week nine.
Ezekiel Elliott popped up on the injury report following Tuesday’s game against the Ravens with a calf injury. Mike McCarthy discussed earlier in the week that Zeke would be limited on Thursday and Friday. On Thursday via conference call, Elliott confirmed that he bruised his calf.
“It’s more of a contusion, not really like a muscle strain; like a big bruise. I’m sure it’s going to be sore during the game but it’s week 13, everyone is going to be sore. I don’t think it should limit me much at all.”
The Cowboys have a quick turnaround this week leading into Sunday’s meeting with the Cincinnati Bengals. At 3-9, with four games to play, and two games behind in first place of the NFC East, the Cowboys could opt to sideline him as a precautionary measure. Time will tell and if Elliott is indeed out or limited on Sunday, Tony Pollard and Rico Dowdle could have a larger role on the ground.
