FRISCO, Texas- The Dallas Cowboys’ secondary has thinned due to injuries but the club could be getting several starters back this week in preparation for the 49ers.
In his Monday evening press conference, Mike McCarthy confirmed that cornerback Chidobe Awuzie is expected to practice on Wednesday. Awuzie was categorized as high-risk, close contact and placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list last Thursday.
In addition, Trevon Diggs (foot fracture) and Donovan Wilson (groin) could potentially return to practice on Wednesday, but based on their current status, McCarthy said they are “maybes.”
Diggs, the Cowboys’ second-round draft pick, was placed on the Reserve/Injured list in November after fracturing his foot against the Steelers. In order for Diggs to start practicing, the Cowboys would have to begin his 21-day practice window off IR.
After an increased role on the team and impactful hard hits on the field, Wilson suffered a groin injury on Thanksgiving Day against Washington and missed the meeting with the Baltimore Ravens. Dallas has also been without Anthony Brown (ribs) the previous two games. On Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium, the injuries once again piled up. Both Saivion Smith (hand) and Rashard Robinson (knee) exited the game due to injuries but were able to return.
