STILLWATER, OK – TCU (5-2) is heading on the road this Wednesday night to take on undefeated Oklahoma State (6-0).
The Horned Frogs are coming into this game confident after an 73-55 win over Texas A&M on Saturday. TCU showed up on both ends of the court and it resulted in an 18 point win. TCU shot 52 percent from the floor and 43 percent from beyond the arc. TCU’s ball movement created many open looks for the Horned Frogs leading three players to hit in double-figures. Nembhard had 16 points, Mike Miles had 15 points, and PJ Fuller had 13 points. Their unselfish play and team effort led them to a victory over the Aggies.
TCU features one of the league’s best backcourts with RJ Nembhard and Mike Miles. Nembhard led the Horned Frogs in Saturday’s victory with 16 points, four rebounds, and nine assists. He was nominated Big 12 player of the week and is a huge contributor to this TCU offense.
TCU had their struggles on defense in the beginning of this season. Head coach Jamie Dixon said that his players were lacking the ability to simply play hard defense. The Horned Frogs turned it up on Saturday and made their presence known in the paint. They stopped the Aggies ball penetration and crashed the boards hard, out rebounding Texas A&M 33-26.
Oklahoma State is 6-0 on the season and is on a 10-game win streak dating back to the 2019-20 season. The Cowboys are led by freshman phenom, Cade Cunningham. The shooting guard is averaging 19 points per game for the Cowboys and hit the game winning 3-pointer with 9.3 seconds left in their victory over Wichita State on Saturday. Cunningham is shooting 47 percent from the floor and from 3-point range.
The Cowboys are shooting 45 percent from the floor this season and 32 percent from beyond the arc. Their offense is diverse and many players contribute, scoring in double-figures.
They struggle turning the ball over, averaging 15 turnovers per game. TCU will need to capitalize on this, cutting off the passing lane and force them to rely on 3-point shots.
TCU will have to lock down the projected No.1 draft pick, Cunningham from making big plays if they want to stay in this game. They have to stop him from penetrating the basket and shooting big time shots beyond the arc.
The game will be Wednesday, December 16 at 6:00 p.m. It will be aired on ESPN.
