FORT WORTH, TX – TCU (7-2) is looking for their fourth straight win as they take on Prairie View A&M (1-3) this Wednesday night at Schollmaier Arena.
The Horned Frogs were originally supposed to play Texas Southern. The Tigers cancelled the game earlier this week due to COVID-19 reasons. TCU found Prairie View A&M as a replacement opponent and will play Wednesday at 7 p.m.
TCU is coming off a 89-82 win against North Dakota State. They are led by Junior guard RJ Nembhard, he had 22 points against NDSU and averages 18.6 points per game. Nembhard is shooting 48 percent from the floor and continues to lead the Horned Frogs offense with his ability to shoot the ball well and penetrate the basket.
TCU shot the ball very effectively last game, shooting 58 percent from the floor. Their offense is showing consistency. They spread the floor giving the guards the ability to shoot the three-pointer or penetrate the basket. They are a very unselfish team and have great ball movement creating open opportunities for Nembhard and Miles to knock down the three-pointers.
The Horned Frogs defense was not as dominant as it has been in previous games. They are known for defending the three-point line, limiting teams to shoot under 40 percent from beyond the arc. TCU gave up 13 three pointers to NDSU, making it a close game until the final minutes of regulation.
Prairie View A&M is currently 1-3 on the season. Their season has not been easy as some games have been canceled and/or rescheduled due to COVID-19.
The Panthers are led by Damari Parris and Cam Mack. Combined they had 29 points and 11 rebounds for the Panthers in their last game against Washington State. Prairie View A&M could not get their offense going last game. They shot 39 percent from the floor and shot 16 percent from beyond the arc, 4-24.
One the defensive side they were not looking much better. The Panthers got outworked under the basket, getting outrebounded 49-30. They are a smaller team down below and struggle getting a body on their opponent.
TCU will need to continue to dominate the floor shooting over 50 percent. Their two superstars, Nembhard and Miles need to take over the game and get out to an early start. They need to put pressure on the Panthers defense by forcing them to guard them from deep. They both have been shooting phenomenal beyond the arc. They are averaging 45 percent from the three-point line and they will need to do that on Wednesday to pull out a victory over the Panthers.
TCU will have to run a 2-3 zone forcing the Panthers to shoot behind the arc. Kevin Samuel will need to crash the boards, capitalizing on all offensive and defensive rebounds.
