SMU Men’s Basketball Host Cincinnati Thursday

DALLAS, TEXAS — The Mustangs are 6-1 overall and 2-1 in American Athletic Conference play, looking to bounce back after their 1st loss of the season, to #5 Houston. UC Head Coach, John Brannen, leads the 2-6 Bearcats, heading to Dallas with hopes to end a 5 game losing streak.

Jr. Point Guard, Kendric Davis consistently stands out for the Mustangs, starting the season with a 33-point career high, which earned him a spot in the AAC Weekly Honor Roll. He averages 19.7 points and 6.7 assists per game, leading SMU with 23 points and 8 rebounds against UH most recently. Earlier this week, he was announced to the conference honor roll for the 3rd time this season. Head Coach, Tim Jankovich praised Davis’ improvement in the off season, and he has come to play every game since. His leadership and shooting threat help the Mustangs offense keep talented defenses off balance.

Jankovich leads the Mustangs in his 5th season as head coach, currently holding the highest winning percentage of any men’s basketball coach in school history. During his tenure, the Mustangs have won both the American regular season and the tournament twice. Prior to SMU, Jankovich spent 5 years as an assistant for legendary Kansas basketball coach Bill Self, before making stops as a head coach at Illinois State and North Texas. Jankovich helped send 27 NBA players to the league, guiding them in making their professional basketball dream come true.

Regular season conference play continues through the beginning of March in a double round robin format. The AAC Conference Tournament will be at Dickies Arena in Ft. Worth, March 11th-14.
Tonight’s game will be available live on ESPNU and the radio. Socially distanced seating at a limited capacity can be found online through the SMU ticket office. Tip off will be at Moody Coliseum at 6 pm CT.
