TCU Defeats Iowa State 79-76 At Home

FORT WORTH, TX — TCU (11-7) defeats Iowa State (2-12) 79-76 tonight in Schollmaier Arena. The Horned Frogs used every weapon they could on offense and out rebounded the Cyclones to get the victory in tonight’s matchup.

This was a back and forth game the entire first half. The Cyclones were shooting well from the floor and showed intensity on both ends of the court. TCU was not shooting the ball well, their star shooter RJ Nembhard was held to six points in the first half.

Iowa State’s lead continued to grow and was as high as nine with five minutes left in the half. With four minutes remaining the freshmen started to make it rain from beyond the arc. Freshman guard Terren Frank, who has yet to see the floor this season, hit two back-to-back three pointers to bring TCU back within three with 54 seconds remaining in the half. To continue the hot streak, redshirt freshman Taryn Todd hit a three-pointer making it a tie game at 38 a piece going into the half.

TCU came into the second half and continued to have shooting problems. Kevin Samuel’s dominant presence in the paint was the only thing keeping them in this game. TCU outrebounded Iowa State 51-34 and was the reason they came out with the victory.

TCU took the lead with 2:45 minutes left and Iowa State could not come back from it. The Horned Frogs fought for every rebound and got scrappy, making it difficult for the Cyclones to get any second chance opportunities to score.

TCU’s offense was all hands on deck tonight. Four of the five starters scored in double-figures and 20 points came off the TCU bench. RJ Nembhard led with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Taryn Todd and PJ Fuller both had 11 points and 5 rebounds. Kevin Samuel had a double-double, he had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

TCU will head on the road this Saturday to take on No. 13 Texas at 1:00 p.m.
