FORT WORTH, TX — TCU (12-13) falls short to Texas (17-7) 76-64 in tonight’s matchup. Turnovers were the cause of TCU’s loss today; they had 22 in counting, mainly caused by the Longhorn’s tough full court press.
TCU played solid basketball the first 20 minutes of this game. With the exception of some offensive turnovers, they played well alongside their top 25 ranked opponent.
Their defense is what kept them in this game in the first half. The Horned Frogs forced six Texas turnovers and outrebounded the Longhorn’s 17-12.
With five minutes remaining in the first half, Texas went up 10 points after hitting some clutch shots. TCU answered right back, coming within two points. With 3:52 remaining, Freshman guard Mike Miles hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 25-25.
Texas answered, going on a 5-0 run to go into the locker room with a four point lead up 33-29.
Texas entered the second half with everyone on their team shooting well. Five Texas players scored in double-figures, Andrew Jones led with 16 points, five rebounds, and six assists. Texas had as much as a 14-point lead over TCU at one point. TCU continued to fight back, coming back within eight points with 10 minutes remaining.
The Horned Frogs struggled against the Longhorn full court press, causing TCU to turn the ball over 22 turnovers. Texas capitalized on those turnovers and started to pull away. With 2:43 left in the game, Texas had an 18-point lead over TCU. Texas held on to that lead and finished the game out with a 76-64 win over TCU.
TCU finishes out the regular season going 12-13 and 5-11 in conference play. The Big 12 tournament will be underway this upcoming Wednesday, March 10. TCU is scheduled to play Kansas State on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.
