Cowboys and QB Dak Prescott Reach New Deal

FRISCO, Texas – Well, the day is finally here. The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to a new contract with quarterback Dak Prescott. Owner and general manager Jerry Jones has often lobbied that ‘deadlines make deals,’ and today that phrase rings true for QB1.

The two sides have agreed to a four-year, $160 million contract with $126 million guaranteed per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Prescott’s signing bonus is $66 million according to ESPN, the highest in NFL history.

The Cowboys officially made an announcement they had agreed to a deal with Prescott but did not disclose specific details on the structure of the new long-term contract. The club will hold a Wednesday news conference.

The grueling process took three offseasons, as Prescott’s representation and Dallas’ front office hit a stalemate on the number of years. The Cowboys consistently vocalized the desire to have Dak Prescott as the franchise’s future and Prescott continued to be clear that he wanted to stay with his childhood favorite team. The deal just took longer than anticipated to come to fruition.

Prescott played on a $31 million tag in 2020 and a second tag in 2021 would have cost $37 million.

In week five against the New York Giants, Prescott suffered a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle requiring multiple surgeries. He made a full recovery and is projected to be ready in April for the team’s offseason workouts.

The commander of the huddle for America’s Team and the franchise’s 2016 fourth-round pick has compiled a 42-27 record, 17,364 passing yards, 106 touchdown passes, and 40 interceptions in five seasons. No. 4 has also racked up 24 rushing touchdowns, the most by a Cowboys’ quarterback.

Now that the Cowboys have locked up Prescott, the team can focus their attention to other pressing needs, specifically on defense and boosting the squad around him.

Story will be updated.
