SMU Face Cincinnati In American Tournament Quarterfinals

FORT WORTH, TEXAS — SMU will come off over a month without competition due to Covid-19 contact tracing. During the regular season, the Mustangs finished 4th in the American Athletic Conference, with an (11-4) record overall. #5 seed, Cincinnati finished (10-10) in their regular season, including a 7-point win over SMU at the beginning of January. The second regular season match-up between the 2 was cancelled.

The Mustangs are lead by Head Coach, Tim Jankovich, boasting a 101-53 record in his 5th season at SMU. Jankovich and his team won conference tournament championships in 2015 and 2017.

SMU Point Guard, Kendric Davis made the first team All-American Conference roster, averaging over 17 points per game. Davis leads the AAC in assists, with 7.6 per game and is on the National Player of the Year watch list. He’s dynamic offensively and has developed into a great leader in his Junior season.

The game will be televised live on ESPN2. Tip off will be at 2 pm CT at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. The quarter final winner moves on to the semis, which will be Saturday against the winner of Wichita State and South Florida. The American Tournament Championship will be Sunday, also at 2 pm CT.
