FRISCO, Texas — In a predominant defensive draft for the Dallas Cowboys, the club opted for a wide receiver in the fifth round. Dallas selected Stanford’s Simi Fehoko at pick 179.
As a one-year starter at Stanford, Fehoko was the X receiver in Stanford’ pro-styled offensive attack. He lined up both inside and outside with a large catch radius. He set a school record with 23.6 yards-per-catch in 2019 and notched 10 catches of 35-plus yards in both 2019 and 2020. At the conclusion of his collegiate career, Fehoko accumulated 62 receptions, 1,146 receiving yards, and 18.5 average after the catch and nine touchdowns in 22 games played.
He accelerates quickly off the line and is sneaky after the catch, contributing to 77% of his catches resulting in a first down or touchdown. He will need to improve his route awareness and blocking ability at the pro level.
Kellen Moore will have a new weapon in his arsenal. Fehoko grew up a Cowboys’ fan and described to media, “absolutely speechless.”
From dressing up as a Cowboy for Halloween as a kid to donning the Star in the NFL, his dream became reality. He will join Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, Michael Gallup and Cedrick Wilson in the Cowboys’ receiving corps.
