OXNARD, Calif. – The Dallas Cowboys have completed their 90-man roster and added depth by signing former Jets cornerback Kyron Brown to a two-year deal on Sunday, according to ESPN’s NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Many anticipated former Colts’ safety Malik Hooker to be the first free agent defensive back to be signed By Dallas but at least for now, Brown fills a roster spot. With Brown’s addition, the club will have to release someone currently on the roster to create a vacant spot for Hooker.
Mike McCarthy confirmed on Sunday that there is “definitely interest” in Hooker and he envisions him being a “perfect fit” in the team’s secondary. If his physical checks out, he is presumed to join the Cowboys.
Brown was signed by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Akron in 2019. He did not make the final roster cuts following training camp and was re-signed by the Jets to their practice squad. Brown was later promoted to the active roster, mainly taking snaps on special teams. He suffered a quad injury in his first career start and was placed on injured reserve. Brown was eventually released by the Jets for a failed physical designation in 2020.
During his collegiate career, Brown started 27 of 51 contests rom 2015-18. He tied the program record for most games played and notched 121 tackles, a forced fumble, 25 pass breakups, and six interceptions.
