TCU Returns 10 Offensive Players and 8 Defensive Players for the 2021-22 Season

FORT WORTH, Texas — TCU training camp concluded Saturday afternoon’s practice and Head Coach Gary Patterson likes what he is seeing so far. The Frogs return 10 offensive players and 8 defensive players for the 2021-22 season.

Coach Patterson said, “Offensively we have a lot of guys returning. We have a lot of talented young receivers and young DB’s. We have guys that can run on each side of the ball.”

Coach said that his guys are very athletic and they have possibilities on offense. He said they will know more tomorrow when they start running plays against each other with pads.

“Everybody changes when you put pads on.”, Coach Patterson.

There are several position battles to look out for gearing up for the September 4 kickoff against Duquesne. Two of those being on the offensive side; the backup quarterback and the starting “X” receiver.

Quentin Johnson got the majority of last season’s passes, but the Frogs need another threat on the outside to create more production for the offense this season.

This season’s wide receivers have a lot of size, speed, and overall talent to make this a very interesting battle. The position is between Sophomore Savion Williams, Junior Mikel Barkley, redshirt Freshman Blake Nowell, and true Freshman Quincy Brown.

Max Duggan will lead the charge for the Horned Frogs this season. The backup quarterback position is between Junior Matthew Downing, redshirt Freshman Luke Pardee, Freshman Alex Honig, redshirt Freshman Chandler Morris, Freshman Trent Battle, and Freshman Sam Jackson.

On the defensive side the Frogs lost five players to the 2021 NFL Draft. The eight returning players have some big shoes to fill. One of the biggest shoes being at linebacker. TCU has to replace 2-time all-Big 12 linebacker Garret Wallow, who was drafted in the fifth round in the 2021 NFL Draft to the Houston Texans.

Returning for the linebacker position the Frogs have Junior Dee Winters, Sophomore Kamoi Hodge, Freshman Shadrack Banks, and Junior Wyatt Harris.

Free safety is another big shoe to fill for TCU as they lost Trevon Meohig, who was the 2021 No. 1 safety prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft. He ended up being drafted by  the Las Vegas Raiders in the second round.

The fight for this position is between Senior TJ Carter, Junior Nook Bradford, and Sophomore Abraham Camara.

The Horned Frogs ended last year’s season at 6-4, winning five of their last six games and placing fifth overall in the Big 12 conference. TCU currently holds the 10th longest win streak in the nation and they plan on continuing that on Saturday, September 4. TCU kicks off their season against Duquesne at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth at 7 p.m. CST.
