SMU Opens The 2021 Season At Home Against Abilene Christian On Saturday

DALLAS, Texas — We are just one day away from the first SMU home game of the 2021 college football season. SMU is gearing up to take on the Abilene Christian Wildcats who are coming off of a 1-5 record from the shortened 2020 season. This is the second meeting between SMU and ACU, but the first in 95 years! The Mustangs are coming off a great record of 7-3 and are hoping to improve even more going into the upcoming season.

Head Coach Sonny Dykes is looking to have five straight wins going into this season. Dykes feels very confident about this as he has just became the fourth head coach to have twenty wins in his first three seasons with the Mustangs. Sonny led the Mustangs to their most historic season back in 2019 with a record of 10-3, winning the most games for SMU Football since 1983.

Dykes feels very confident with his players this upcoming season such as returning All American running back Ulysses Bentley IV along with two all-conference selections, offensive lineman Hayden Howerton and offensive lineman Jaylon Thomas. Bentley is a sophomore who played all 10 games, started six of them and led the league with 913 rushing yards(18th in NCAA and 1st in ACC). His 11 rushing touchdowns set the SMU freshman single record. Howerton and Thomas both helped lead the Mustangs to national rankings and both started the 2020 season.

SMU has home field advantage and we are excited for kick off time Saturday September 4th at 6pm CT at Gerald Ford Stadium.
