FRISCO, Texas —The Dallas Cowboys suffered a tremendous blow on Sunday. In Mike McCarthy’s morning press conference from the Star, he confirmed All-Pro right guard Zack Martin has tested positive for COVID-19. Martin will miss the season opener against the defending Super Bowl champions.
Connor McGovern will get first-team reps during Sunday’s practice and will likely be Martin’s starting replacement at right guard against Tampa Bay’s defensive front.
Martin dealt with several injuries last season that caused him to miss six games, including a Pro Bowl appearance for the first time in his career. He is the anchor of the Cowboys’ line, paving the way for running backs with second level blocking and providing Dak Prescott a clean pocket. The battle is won in the trenches and the Cowboys received their first taste of devastating news.
