DALLAS, Texas — Saturday Night SMU hosted ACU in the first home game of the college football season which resulted in a blowout! The Mustangs trampled the Wild Cats 56-9 making them 1-0 and starting the season off strong.
SMU Quarterback Tanner Mordecai certainly was the start of tonight’s game. Mordecai had an outstanding game, completing 24-30 passes and record night with 7 touchdowns. Tanner also had some stand out wide receivers that kept those chains moving such as Grant Calcaterra who had 51 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. Followed by Danny Gray who had 72 rushing yards and also 2 touchdowns. The Junior quarterback earned his starting spot tonight and stated, “ It felt great to know I was the starting quarterback, I expected it, but honestly being named team captain meant more to me than anything.”
Head Coach Sonny Dykes said, “ It felt good to be back out there. We played hard and executed well, overall it was a great game.” Dykes also stated he thought Mordecai played well. He never panicked, made great plays, and took care of the ball.”
SMU will be back home next Saturday September 11th, to take on North Texas.
