FRISCO, Texas – The hits keep coming. Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Ty Nsekhe was hospitalized after experiencing heat exhaustion following Thursday’s practice. Nsekhe was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The temperature reached 90 degrees in Frisco on Thursday and Nsekhe’s heat-illness symptoms were noticeable to the attending medical staff after Thursday’s practice. The veteran tackle was released Friday morning but will not play on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
“I think anytime you’re dealing with heat issues, it’s never comfortable,” Mike McCarthy described. “I think when an individual needs to get an IV, being dehydrated is an uncomfortable feeling. You have guys that may have cramped after a hot practice like that but it’s never a comfortable feeling.”
With Nsekhe out, Terence Steele is the sure starter at right tackle against the Chargers in place of La’el Collins. Collins is suspended five games for violating the NFL’s Policy on Substances of Abuse. Brandon Knight, recently activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list, will be the backup swing tackle.
Despite the circumstances that unfolded, McCarthy silenced the notion of reconsidering outdoor practices in the Texas heat. “Absolutely not,” he stated. The team’s routine will continue to stay the same.
