FRISCO, Texas – The Cowboys added depth at cornerback on Wednesday. The club signed Holton Hill to the practice squad.
Dallas worked out Hill in July during training camp in Oxnard but opted not to sign him. He then signed with the Indianapolis Colts and was waived in August during final roster cuts following the preseason.
Hill signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2018 as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Texas. That year, he played in all 16 games (three starts) and notched 36 tackles, an interception, and seven passes defensed. In 2019, Hill was suspended for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. Last season, he was placed on the Reserve/Injured list in November with a foot injury after appearing in four games. Hill was later waived in December.
He filled an open spot for Dallas on the practice squad. In the meantime, the Cowboys await the return of rookie cornerback Kelvin Joseph (hamstring) from the Reserve/Injured list. The Kentucky product will be eligible to return after Week 3’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
