CB Trevon Diggs Named NFC Defensive Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – The trend continues for Cowboys’ cornerback Trevon Diggs. After receiving NFC Defensive Player of the Month recognition last week, he receives another honor this month. With two interceptions in the Cowboys’ victory over the undefeated Panthers, Diggs was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week by the league for his sensational performance in the 36-28 win over Carolina.

His interceptions in the third quarter spurred the defense and sparked a momentum shift in favor of Dallas. Diggs now has five total interceptions in the first four games of the season, leading the NFL. That is the most interceptions by a player from Weeks 1-4 of a season since Darren Sharper accomplished it while playing for New Orleans in 2009.

The Cowboys’ bona fide No.1 corner has become synonymous with the phrase “lockdown.” Diggs’ instinctual play and sticky coverage is even more impressive considering the elite receivers he has been paired with week-after-week to begin the 2021 season, including Mike Evans and Keenan Allen.

“I don’t think I’ve seen a player have a better start and do it with the combination of how he’s gotten ready, how he’s gotten prepared himself, and his own natural ability,” Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. “When he came out, we all thought he was the best make a play on the ball of any of the corners, and there were some really top corners there. And, so, he’s playing much higher than form. Let’s put it like that.”
