NORMAN, OK – TCU (3-2, 1-1) is heading into their second road game of the season against undefeated No. 4 Oklahoma (6-0, 3-0). TCU beat Texas Tech last Saturday in a 52-31 win that was led by the TCU running game. Zach Evans and Kendre Miller combined for five touchdowns to lead the Horned Frogs to a victory.
Max Duggan converted on eight of 10 passes for 108 yards and threw for one touchdown. The TCU offense was looking good on Saturday night against Texas Tech but there are a lot of questionable offensive players for Saturday’s game against Oklahoma.
“Max (Duggan) and Zach (Evans) are both questionable whether they will play; we will see it’s only Tuesday.” Head coach Gary Patterson said in Tuesday morning’s presser.
The Horned Frogs have been struggling with injuries since the beginning of the season and it seems to continue to get worse as the season goes on. Quentin Johnson is also questionable for Saturday as well as Wes Harris and Wyatt Harris.
The recurring issue that TCU has had this season is their defense. Their defense has struggled defending their opponents run game and is the reason they have lost close games. The defense was still an issue against Texas Tech, even though they won, the defense still gave up 558 yards of total offense and four touchdowns to the Red Raiders.
Oklahoma is coming into this game undefeated at 6-0 and nationally ranked no. 4 in the AP Polls. The Sooners had a historical win over Texas last Saturday during the red river showdown. Oklahoma overcame the largest deficit in series history – 21 points, and came back and beat no. 21 Texas 55-48.
The story behind that game wasn’t the unbelievable comeback, but that Oklahoma benched their once hopeful Heisman candidate quarterback Spencer Rattler and the true freshman quarterback Caleb Williams came in to save the day.
There was a lack of defense by both teams in that matchup. They combined for 103 points and that was the most points ever in a Texas vs Oklahoma game.
Oklahoma had a great comeback offensively, but what put them there in the first place was their defense. The defense gave up 516 total yards of offense and seven touchdowns to the Longhorns.
Both TCU and Oklahoma have defenses that have under performed this season. If Oklahoma plays defense like how they did against Tulane, Nebraska, and West Virginia then TCU will have a chance to take away the win.
Kickoff between the Horned Frogs and Oklahoma will be this Saturday, October 16th at 6:30 p.m. on and will be televised on ABC.
