FORT WORTH, TX – TCU (3-4, 1-3) lost their second straight game to West Virginia
(3-4, 1-3) on Saturday night in Fort Worth 29-17.
TCU wasted no time getting on the clock. Derius Davis returned the first kickoff of the game and ran for a 100 yard touchdown, putting TCU on the board in the first 10 seconds of the game.
The Horned Frog defense held their own on the Mountaineers first series of the game, West Virginia settled for a field goal and got on the board, 7-3.
The TCU offense took to the field and it was rather short lived. Max Duggan was sacked for a loss of seven at West Virginia’s 47 yard line and forced TCU to punt.
West Virginia’s offense took the TCU stop and ran with it. They scored a touchdown and took the lead for the first time in the game, 10-7 with seven seconds left in the first quarter.
The Mountaineer defense continued to rattle the TCU offense, the Horned Frogs were forced to punt yet again. The Mountaineer’s did a very good job stopping the run game. At the half, Zach Evans led TCU with only 42 total yards rushing.
TCU scraped their way to another touchdown with a Duggan pass to Taye Barker for a five yard touchdown, putting TCU back on top 14-13.
West Virginia answered with a touchdown that started with a Jarret Doege pass to Winston Wright Jr. for 40 yards to the TCU 15 for a first down. Leddie Brown finished the series with a one yard touchdown, putting the mountaineers back on top 20-14.
Before going into the half, TCU managed to get a field goal making their deficit only three points going into the half.
TCU came out of the half and started on the foot. Duggan threw an interception that turned into a Mountaineer field goal, making West Virginia’s lead 23-17.
Things were quiet for the remainder of the third quarter, both teams defenses forced punts on both ends sending TCU into the fourth down six.
The struggles continued for Duggan in the fourth quarter, the Horned Frogs first series of the final quarter of the ball game resulted in a Duggan interception that led to a touchdown for the Mountaineers, pushing their lead to 29-17.
The TCU offense continued to struggle the remainder of the fourth quarter while West Virginia capitalized on their mistakes. Duggan had a 29 yard pass completion to Quentin Johnston that was then fumbled and recovered by West Virginia’s WVirg Charles Woods.
TCU got the ball back for one final series but couldn’t get the ball down the field. West Virginia took the ball game 29-17 in Fort Worth.
