Jerry Jones: “I feel Very Good About Where Dak Is Right Now”

FRISCO, Texas – A key storyline and injury to monitor entering the Cowboys’ preparation for the Vikings is none other than quarterback Dak Prescott.

Prescott suffered a right calf strain in the final play of the win over New England in Foxborough. Then came the bye week. Perfect timing for QB1 to rest and heal ahead of this week’s road game in Minnesota.

Cowboys’ owner/general manager Jerry Jones provided clarification on 105.3 The Fan Tuesday morning, stating “I feel very good about where Dak is right now.”

“Based on what you saw yesterday [Monday’s practice], that was very encouraging. But those things have to be monitored. We have a solid week, which is great to monitor that. I thought [Zack] Martin had a good description of it when he had the calf tear last year. He said some days it feels great and then it feels like you got run over by a bulldozer the next day.”

Monday’s practice was not open to media viewing but Prescott seemingly did throw the football around. He will likely be limited this week and backup Cooper Rush will take some additional reps throughout the week in addition.

The Mississippi State product is no longer wearing a walking boot. Prescott made a brief appearance on Monday during media availability as he stepped outside to cheer on a team nutritionist working out on the practice field. He disclosed that he would give an update on his injury status later in the week, which is routinely scheduled for Thursday afternoon.

Prescott sustained a shoulder injury in training camp that sidelined him during the preseason. Jerry Jones added via 105.3 The Fan that he is “much less” concerned with Prescott’s calf injury than he was with the shoulder strain.

“Much less. Not even in my thought process of things to worry about. So, again, comparing the two, I wouldn’t compare the two. One is much less sensitive to me – I’m talking the calf than the shoulder.”

Not a revolutionary answer considering Prescott’s shoulder injury happened to be on his right throwing shoulder. But nonetheless, an encouraging note as the team gears up for Mike Zimmer’s Vikings.

Thus far in the 2021 season, Prescott is playing his best football, ranking inside the top 10 in nearly every statistical passing category. He is getting the ball out quicker, a result of his developed command at the line of scrimmage and diagnosis of defenses. Prescott has an improved mastery of Kellen Moore’s offense and No.4 is expected to return to live action come Sunday.
