Cowboys Activate Donovan Wilson, Maurice Canady

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Dallas Cowboys made several adjustments to the roster prior to Sunday’s matchup against the Washington Football Team. The Cowboys addressed the secondary with new additions to the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

With both Jourdan Lewis and Malik Hooker in COVID protocols, Dallas activated Donovan Wilson and Maurice Canady from the Reserve/Designated to Return list. Lewis is one of the team’s top three cornerbacks and registered an interception against the Giants in Week 15. Hooker is coming off his most productive day so far in 2021, notching six tackles and an interception in the club’s win over New York.

In the absence of Lewis, the team’s primary slot corner, the Cowboys’ have added Canady as a viable depth option in the slot. Anthony Brown also has the position flexibility to play inside. If Brown were to shit to the slot, rookie Kelvin Joseph would see his first meaningful snaps on the outside.

Malik Hooker has been utilized in sub packages as the third safety behind Jayron Kearse and Damontae Kazee, and Wilson will be used to fill that role. Wilson aggravated a groin injury in the season opener against Tampa and returned to action in Week 6. Following the game against the Chiefs, Wilson was put on injured reserve with shoulder and chest injuries. In six games, he amassed 18 tackles, a pass breakup and a quarterback hit.

The Cowboys also elevated defensive backs Kyron Brown and Darian Thompson from the practice squad.
