MANHATTAN, KS – TCU (11-2) (1-1) scored eight unanswered points, seven being in the final 24 seconds to shut out Kansas (8-7) (0-4) 60-57.
The Horned Frogs trailed 57-53 with 28 seconds left on the clock after Mike Miles missed an open three-pointer but the Frogs still found a way to pull out the win.
The momentum changed when Emanuel Miller made a layup after he grabbed an offensive rebound. TCU trailed 57-55 with 17.8 seconds left on the clock and Nijel Pack got called for a TCU turnover for traveling.
The Horned Frogs thought they were all out of answers until the Wildcats turned the ball over again giving TCU posesion with 11 seconds left on the clock. Damion Baugh hit a clutch three-pointer to give TCU a 58-57 lead. TCU had the lead the remainder of the game and added another win to their record.
This was the Wildcats second game where they go outplayed in the second half and end up losing a game after having a substantial lead. Four days earlier Kansas State blew a 17-point lead to West Virginia.
“Give credit to TCU, they made some big plays down the stretch. I just feel for our guys, because they really care and they try. They’ve been through a lot and we had our chances, but you have got to learn how to win and we didn’t know how to win today.” Head Coach Weber stated post game.
Miles led the Horned Frogs with 19 points, five rebounds, and six assists. Baugh added 12 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Markquis Nowell led Kansas State with 18 points, three rebounds, and four assists.
TCU will head back to Fort Worth to take on Oklahoma at 3:00 PM in Schollmaier Arena on Saturday, January 15.
