DALLAS, Texas — SMU beat Temple 69-61, staying undefeated in Moody Coliseum through 11 home games so far this season. The Mustangs are 16-4 overall, 7-1 in American Athletic Conference play and 11-0 in Moody Coliseum. Temple falls to 11-7 and 4-3 in the league.
Point Guard, Kendric Davis lead the conference in scoring coming into the game, averaging over 20 points per game but the Owls defended him well early, holding him to just 4 (of 4) free throws through the first 30 minutes of the game.
Marcus Weathers stepped in a big way, leading the Mustangs with 27 points and 9 rebounds. Davis got loose as SMU broke away during the last few minutes of the game, ending the day with 11 very important late points. Emmanuel Bandoumel contributed 10 points and 5 rebounds. Defensively, the Mustangs played sharp across the board. Ending the game with 10 blocks overall.
The Mustangs were picked 3rd in the American pre-season poll behind Houston and Memphis. Right now, the Mustangs are 2nd behind Houston. American Conference play continues Thursday evening when SMU hosts Wichita State.
