EVANSDALE, WV – TCU (19-11, 8-10) fell short to West Virginia (15-16, 4-14) 70-64 on Saturday afternoon. This should have been a game that the Frogs could have easily won before entering the Big 12 tournament before the NCAA tournament kicks off. TCU has never won in Evansdale and today was a great opportunity to do so.
TCU’s biggest weakness right now is their turnovers. They slowed down on the turnovers against Texas Tech and Kansas and beat both teams. Today they turned the ball over 18 times which resulted in a loss.
The Frogs usually help their turnovers with great rebounding but they didn’t do that today either. TCU was down 39-33 at the half and one of the reasons why was because the Mountaineers had 10 offensive boards while the Frogs had two.
TCU got lucky and the Mountaineers missed a lot of their second chance opportunities leaving room for the Frogs to come back into the game.
West Virginia went on a 7-3 run to finish out the half with a six point lead. They were led by Sherman with 13 points at the half and he finished the night with 15 points on his Senior day.
The Frogs had eight turnovers going into the locker room and got outrebounded.
TCU didn’t get much better after the break, the turnovers continued to happen and they couldn’t get a rhythm going on offense. They went six minutes without a field goal late in the second half and that really hurt them.
The Frogs finished with 18 turnovers, shooting 42 percent from the floor, and 31 percent from beyond the arc. They also got outrebounded 33-29 and lost the offensive rebounding game 13-6.
TCU was led by Mike Miles with 17 points, one rebound, and two assists. Micah Peavy and Damion Bough eached contributed 12 points.
With the wins against Texas Tech and Kansas, TCU has made it to the NCAA tournament but they have to eliminate their turnovers if they want to see good results in mid march.
