FORT WORTH, TX – The No. 1 Seed Baylor Bears will kick off the first round of the NCAA Basketball Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas on Thursday afternoon and their opponent is no. 16 Norfolk State Spartans. Tip off time is 1 P.M. inside Dickie’s Arena.
Baylor, sitting at the No. 1 seed has an obvious advantage over No. 16 Norfolk. As we can all remember Baylor is the one that took the crown at the last dance in 2021. After an early exit in the Big 12 tournament a week ago, the Bears are ready to get back at it and show everyone why they are a No. 1 seed in this tournament.
Most assumed due to losing a lot of players due to Senior status that Baylor would wind down and take a back seat in this year’s tournament. Well the Bears made us all feel like fools as they displayed that their depth will lead them to a No. 1 seed and to secure the Big 12.
Baylor is all good to go except for the fact that they will be without their leading scorer LJ Cryer. He is projected to miss the first and second round due to a foot injury. He has missed 11 of their last 12 games.
Norfolk is on a hot streak winning nine of their last 10 games. They also have proven they are one of the best three-point defensive teams. The Spartans finished 24-6, the best record in Coach Rob Jones’ career.
The Spartans are heading to the dance for the third time since getting D1 status. Baylor will be heading to the dance for the 14th time and have been to the final four three times.
Baylor has the obvious advantage over Norfolk but it is March so anything can happen, right?
