DETROIT, MI – The Dallas Mavericks (50-30) collect win no. 50 against the Detroit Pistons (23-57) on Wednesday night as they beat the Pistons in a 131-113 victory.
Dallas had a slow start against this not so successful Pistons team. This has been a trend for Dallas this year, they seem to play down to their opponent as they lost to the Wizards two days prior.
The Mavs were down 34-32 at the end of the first quarter and decided to come to play in the second quarter. Mavs outscored Detroit 33-24 to take a seven point lead going into half time.
Luka Doncic led the Mavs with 26 points, eight rebounds, and 14 assists. Jalen Brunson added 24 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 25 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists.
The game started rough and we all thought it was going to end how the Washington game ended, but we were wrong. Dallas had a seven point lead at the half and continued to grow their lead for the remainder of the game.
“We were focused. This wasn’t the Washington game. We didn’t fall into that trap.” Jason Kidd told us post game.
“We’re known to not win these games [against worse teams] … but we got a win, so that’s what we came here for.” Luka Doncic told the media post game.
Dallas had great defense keeping Saddiq Bey to just seven points the entire game. They also played solid offense, shooting 56 percent from the floor and converting on 15-of-33 three’s for the night.
The Mavs will head home to American Airlines Center on Friday night for a two game home stand to finish out the regular season. They will host the Trail Blazers on Friday night at 7:30 PM and the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night at 8:30 PM.
