Mavericks Stomp The Jazz 102-77 And Take A 3-2 Lead In The Series

DALLAS, TX –  The Dallas Mavericks blow out the Utah Jazz at home in American Airlines Center on Monday night in a 102-77 win after losing to Utah on Saturday night by one point in Salt Lake City.

Dwight Powell started the fire for the Mavs in the first quarter having eight of Dallas’s 24. The boys couldn’t really play much basketball, it felt like there was a whistle every three seconds, and no it was not in Dallas’s favor. The Jazz shot nine free throws while Mavs only shot two in the first quarter.

Even with the refs not necessarily on our side, Dallas continued to play hard and took a six-point lead to end the first quarter. We won the rebound game and also shot 20 percent better than Utah, which helped take the first quarter.

The second quarter got started and Dallas started to play with some heart. The Mavs started playing together as a unit on offense and knocking down shots. They were a little dry from the three-point line, shooting 5-of-19 at 25 percent. But with that being said they came together on the inside shots.

They shot 46 percent from the floor and they got a little bit from everybody. With Luka Doncic having just 11 points, Jalen Brunson and Dorian Finney-Smith stepped up with 13 apiece to give Dallas 26 of their 52 points at the half.

Dallas went into the locker room up 16 points.

The third quartet continues to be where the Mavs shine the brightest. They outscored Utah 29-19 in the third and Doncic lit it up scoring 19 points in the third quarter alone.

The Mavs outrebounded Utah 37-30 entering the fourth quarter and made 12 three-pointers compared to Utah’s three. Dallas had their largest lead of the night in the third, taking a 33-point lead entering the fourth.

Dallas held Utah to just 55 points entering the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter got underway and Dallas started to knock down some shots. Brunson added another 10 points onto his resume for the night and Luka added 3 more points before being pulled with five minutes left to play after Dallas created a 30-point lead.

Midway through the fourth quarter the Jazz started to get frustrated as they were down 30 points. Hassan Whiteside hacked Doncic on a layup attempt and it got heated quickly under the basket. Doncic, known for being passionate, let it go but his teammates were not having it.

Dorian Finney-Smith and Reggie Bullock got technicals defending their team mate, Bullock was ejected because that was his second tech of the night. Whiteside was also ejected after the tech was called on him as well.

After the incident Head Coach Jason Kidd entered in the bench and the starters got to rest for the remainder of the game. Dallas will take a 3-2 lead in the series and head back to Utah for Game 6. That game will be played on Thursday, April 28 at 9 PM CST.
