Dallas Cowboys Pre-Draft Press Conference Takeaways

FRISCO, TX – It is officially draft week and the Dallas cowboys are wasting no time getting ready for their selections.

The cowboys have the 24th overall pick in the first round and Stephen Jones told us today at the pre draft press conference that when it comes down to picking the best available or picking what the cowboys need they are going to go with the pick that best fits Dallas instead of the best graded player.

“We pick what our needs are. We don’t jump a half of a round down to scratch an edge.” Says Jones.

“We will pick need over best grade.” Jones stated in the press conference.

Jones believes that it’s a very middle of the draft heaving 3rd through the 5th round. First and second rounds are a little thin than it usually is in previous years.

Dallas is not worried about the high pick according to Head Coach Mike McCarthy he said that he thinks they are going to have some great opportunities.

According to McCarthy they want to get players on both sides of the ball.

McCarthy said, “The ability to get both offensive and defensive players.”

As of right now the Cowboys do have the 24th overall pick, they do have the ability to trade down if they feel it’s necessary.

“We might consider trading down. I would not NOT consider anything when it comes to the draft.” Jerry

Jerry Jones says that they need to think outside of the box when it comes to the draft and he is confident they will make the right choices to get them back to where they were last year, in the playoffs. Jones stated that they can make hard decisions quickly and he says it gives them an advantage in the draft to make the right decision.

“We have to see where things are going, we had no idea Parsons was going to be there when we got to that point in the draft [last year].” Jerry in regards to thinking outside of the box and quick on their feet last year when Parsons was still available when the Cowboys had their pick at 12.

The main goal at the end of the draft for the entire Cowboy’s organization is to get better and to look for ways to improve so they can make it farther in the playoffs than they have in the previous years.

The draft will start on Thursday at 6 PM CST and go through Saturday night.
