DALLAS, TX – The Dallas Mavericks defeat the Phoenix Suns 111-101 on Mother’s Day in American Airlines Center on Sunday Afternoon.
Dallas almost caused a flood in AAC after dropping 20 three-pointers on Phoenix. They shot 45 percent from beyond on the arc and the majority of those three-pointers were not from Luka Doncic.
Dorian Finney-Smith led the three-point game shooting 8-of-12 at 66 percent. He ended the night with 24 points. Luka Doncic was quieter than usual, finishing the night with 26 points, seven rebounds, and 11 assists.
With Luka not producing as much as everyone is used to, it forced the rest of the team to step up and knock down some shots. His teammates answered very nicely. Finney-Smith had 24 points, Jalen Brunson had 18 points, Davis Bertans had 12 points, and Spencer Dinwiddie had 10 points.
The Mavs got a little bit from everybody today and it worked out in their favor.
The offensive side of the ball was pretty for Dallas. They shot the ball well, they moved the ball well, they played as a team the entire game.
Let’s talk about the defensive side of the ball. The Mavs broke down this Suns team and it started with Chris Paul. Chris Paul ended the first half with five points and four fouls. CP3 has never had four fouls in a first half ever in his career.
He sat out the beginning of the third until he eventually entered midway through, he was quick to grab another foul that was called offensive against Jalen Brunson and was sent to the bench again with five fouls.
He received his fourth foul early in the fourth quarter and had to take it to the bench for the remainder of the game.
Dallas forced 17 turnovers in back-to-back games for Phoenix and held them to under 50 percent shooting for the second game in a row at 46 percent.
With that win the Dallas Mavericks tied the series 2-2 forcing a game five and six. Game five will be in Phoenix on Tuesday at 9 PM CST.
