Mavericks Give Up 19 Point Lead To Lose Game 2 To Warriors

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Dallas Mavericks give up a 19 point lead in the third quarter to lose game two in San Francisco on Friday night. Poor defense at the end of the third and fourth quarter led Dallas to this loss.

Mavs gave up 43 points in the fourth quarter and the Warriors shot 15-of-19 to take the Win on their home court on Friday night.

Dallas started the game off strong taking a 23-8 lead early in the first quarter. Dallas went on a 13-0 run to give themselves a significant lead before Golden State answered, going on a 14-0 run to come with five of Dallas.

Dallas answered back knocking down some three-pointers taking a 14-point lead into the locker room.

Both teams were shooting extremely well in the first half. Dallas had a 72-58 point lead at the half. A high score for half. Both teams combined for 19 three-pointers in the first half. The Mavs made 15 three-pointers in the first half while the Warriors had four.

It all looked good for Dallas until midway through the third quarter. Two things changed the game for Dallas; their poor defense and lack of ability to attack the basket.

“We were taking early looks at the three-point shots when we could have attacked the basket.” Reggie Bullock told us after the game.

Golden State had 62 points in the paint while Dallas had 30 points in the paint. Dallas needs to attack the basket more and draw the foul. The Mavs got out played in the paint and this number needs to get better in game three.

Dallas’s ability to play defense deteriorated into the fourth quarter and the Mavs gave up 43 points.

“They got a lot of easy looks,” says Jalen Brunson following the game.

The Mavs shot 47 percent from the floor and 42 percent from beyond the arc. They made 21 three-pointers and they were led tonight by Luka Doncic. Doncic had 42 points, five rebounds, and eight rebounds.

Jalen Brunson added 31 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Reggie Bullock added 21 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

Dallas will head back to their home court to play games three and four in American Airlines Center on Sunday May 22 at 8 PM and Tuesday May 24 at 8 PM.
