SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Dallas Mavericks lost to the Golden State Warriors in a 120-110 battle in San Francisco on Thursday night to end their season as the Warriors took the series 4-1.
Golden State had the lead the majority of this game. What started Golden spark was the amazing shooting by Klay Thompson. Thompson had 32 points on the night and made eight three-pointers to give the Warriors that steady lead the entire game. Thompson was the one that got things started for the Warriors and Dallas could not defend him.
Spencer Dinwiddie held the Mavs on his back the entire first half as Luka Doncic could not get going early. Dinwiddie had 26 points and shot 5-of-7 from three to keep Dallas within 10 at the end of the first quarter.
Things started to slip away for Dallas closer to halftime. They went into the locker room down 69-52 and most had given up hope for this Dallas team as they were staring at a 17-point deficit to enter the third quarter.
The third quarter is where Dallas excels, they have done it all season and they did it again last night. They won the quarter 32-25 and it all happened with 3:25 left in the quarter. The Warriors sustained their 17-point lead until Dallas went on a 15-0 run with three minutes left in the quarter to bring them back within 10 points.
Luka Doncic had six points entering the half. He was struggling from downtown and could not get the ball to fall. He changed things around in the third, racking up 18 points and nailing some three’s to give Dallas some life entering the fourth quarter.
The Warriors answered back in the beginning of the fourth and Thompson nailed yet another three-pointer giving the Warriors a 15-point lead with six minutes left in regulation and that was the dagger in the coffin for the Mavs.
Dallas tried to revive themselves but could not get the job done. Golden State took the win and the series 4-1.
The Mavs had a tremendous season getting all the way to the Western Conference Finals when the odds were not in their favor. Head Coach Jason Kidd told us after the game, “We laid the foundation and now we can start building. This group fought, we didn’t have a second star, we had a team. When you look at Cuban and Nico this summer, and Finley they are going to look to improve the team.”
