OXNARD, CA – The Dallas Cowboys concluded day two of training camp on Wednesday afternoon in Oxnard. The morning started with some roster moves to make way for the signing of Kavontae Turpin.
The Cowboys decided to sign former TCU player and USFL MVP Kavontae Turpin Wednesday morning. Dallas’s roster was already full at 90 players so they waived Nick Ralston, the 2021 free-agent.
Turpin sits at just 5’9 and 155 lbs but he is going to be a great asset to this Dallas team as a punt returner. He had a successful USFL season as punt returner and receiver and the Cowboy’s liked what they saw when he came to work out.
Break down from Thursday’s practice:
Micah Parsons was a force to be reckoned with as always. He was beating the offensive lineman all day and getting to Dak Prescott in the backfield. The defense has shown its strengths and look like they are more together than the offense right now. The secondary in particular look good as they have already had multiple pass breakups and a couple picks. The defense also completely stopped the offense on two minute drills today.
Tyler Smith is looking leaner and faster. We were told that he is still 325 lbs and a very big body which is what you want in a left guard. We will get to see more of his strength and ability when the Cowboys put pads on next week.
Even though Dalton Schultz did not receive a contract before the july 14 deadline and was franchise tagged for the season, he’s still the go to for this Cowboy’s offense when they are scrambling. It was seen today in practice that when Prescott is forced out of the pocket and needs to find somebody quickly his go to is Schultz.
The Wide Receiver position is looking better and better. Prescott was working on the deep balls today with Ceedee Lamb and they were seeing great connection. T.J. Vasher had some good connections today and James Washington looked good as well after having a bad fall on his shoulder that scared everyone but he was good a few plays later.
