LOS ANGELES, CA – The Dallas Cowboys are having joint practices with the LA Chargers. These two teams will alson go head to head in their second preseason game of the year on Saturday night. Kick off is 9 P.M. in SoFi Stadium.
The Cowboys have lost four straight preseason games to the Chargers. The last time these two teams played in a regular season game was in week two of the 2021 season where Dallas defeated the Chargers 20-17 on a 56-yard game winning field goal made by Greg Zuerlein.
Dak Prescott was 23-of-27 at an 85 percent completion rate which was his fourth highest completion rate in his career. Tony Pollard also had a tremendous game, he ran for 109 yards on 13 carries with one touchdown.
Three things to look out of in preseason game two:
ANTHONY BARR:
Barr has finally been taking off the PUP and made his debut on Wednesday for the joint practice against the Chargers.
CORNERBACKS:
Kelvin Joseph and Nahshon Wright had a rough game against the Broncos and are more than likely trying to come back from that in this upcoming game against the Chargers. Joseph and Wright were a part of the reason the Cowboys were looking at a 17-0 deficit entering the fourth quarter against Denver.
PENALTIES:
Dallas led the league last year racking up 141 penalties and it was a big deal during this offseason to clean up the messy play. Well… that wasn’t the case in the first preseason game against the Broncos. They racked up 17 penalties for 119 yards. That is the most a football team has been penalized in a preseason game since 2019.
Penalties are a big reason they continue to lose games. Dallas had 14 penalties in their wildcard playoff game last season against the San Francisco 49ers and that is not a winning formula.
Mike McCarthy stated after the first preseason game that he did not like the penalties and told us that he did talk to the players about it during half time and briefly after the game.
WIDE RECEIVERS:
Jalen Tolbert has been preparing to be with no. 2 wide receiver for week one. After his performance in his first preseason game it leaves everyone wondering if he is ready for the job. Tolbert was targeted seven times and only had two catches for 10 yards with zero touchdowns. He needs to produce more for Dallas while the Cowboys have so many injuries at this position.
