FRISCO, TX – The Dallas Cowboys have moved some things around after turning in their initial 53-man roster that was due on Tuesday afternoon per the NFL deadline.
Initially Dallas’s QB1, Dak Prescott, was the one quarterback to make the 53-man roster while the Cowboys waived Cooper Rush and Will Grier. Wednesday morning Dallas signed both backup quarterbacks to the practice squad. This ensures that the Cowboys will have three quarterbacks for week one against Tampa.
Mike McCarthy told us in the press conference after practice Wednesday afternoon that Cooper Rush will be QB2 in Dallas behind Dak Prescott.
As of Wednesday afternoon this is Dallas’s up to date practice squad:
Brett Maher, K
Cooper Rush, QB
Will Grier, QB
Malik Davis, RB
Sean McKeon, TE
Brandon Smith, WR
Dontario Drummond, WR
Aviante Collins, T
Isaac Alarcon, G
Alec Lindstrom, C
Carlos Watkins, DT
Mika Tafua, DL
Malik Jefferson, LB
Tyler Coyle, S
Juanyeh Thomas, S
Two more moves that were well anticipated was the Cowboy’s decision to move Tyron Smith (hamstring) and James Washington (foot) to the injury reserved list leaving two more open roster spots for Dallas. With those two spots available, the Cowboys re-signed cornerback C.J. Goodwin and long snapper Jake McQuade.
Some exciting news came Tuesday afternoon when it was announced that Michael Gallup passed his physical and was taken off PUP (physically unable to perform). Gallup is not scheduled to play week one against Tampa but he could return quicker than everyone has anticipated.
Jerry Jones told 105.3thefan on Monday, “If (Week 1) was the Super Bowl, he’d be lining up and playing. He’s that ready.”
Obviously Dallas is not playing in the superbowl so they plan to continue Gallup on his rehab process and watch him closely as the season is about to get underway.
