FRISCO, TX – The Dallas Cowboys sign runningback Qadree Ollison and Center Dakoda Shepley to the practice squad on Thursday. Officially, the Cowboys 17-man practice squad and 53-man roster is full.
On Wednesday night the Cowboys inquired about former Philadelphia Eagles LT Jason Peters. Peters would possibly replace Tyron Smith at LT due to Smith being out with that hamstring injury.
Peters, 40, went undrafted in the 2004 NFL draft despite being projected to go in the fourth round. He became an undrafted free agent and landed a spot with the Buffalo Bills. He worked his way from the practice squad to a five-year $15 million dollar extension. Following the Bills he was traded to the Eagles in 2009 where he signed a six-year $60 million deal to ensure he played with the Eagles through the year 2014.
Peters was selected to the 2010-2011 Pro Bowl as the starting offensive end. He was also selected as the 2010 Second-Team All-Pro selection. Peters played through February of 2014 before the Eagles renewed his contract for five-years $51 million.
If the Cowboys plan on signing Peters they are going to have to make adjustments due to that 53-man roster being full. Peters is expected to drive into town to visit with the Cowboys today. Nothing has been finalized at this time.
With a lot still up in the air the starting LT for week one against Tampa Bay has still not been identified. Obviously, the rookie Tyler Smith is in the running, he has been practicing and LG and LT at practice. He told us after practice today that he is comfortable playing at LT because that was his main position that he played in college. He talked about the value that it brings to be able to play at multiple positions. Smith said being able to move around from position to position benefits his game and his career.
