FRISCO, TX – The Dallas Cowboys (0-1) face week two of the 2022 season against the reigning AFC Champions, Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals (0-1). Week one didn’t go the way the Cowboys planned, their offense couldn’t seem to get anything going. Dak Prescott didn’t hit a lot of his targets which led the receivers to not being able to make plays.
Prescott threw for 14-of-29 for 134 total yards and CeeDee Lamb ended his first game with two catches for 29 yards. Not great stats for the two star players of the Dallas Cowboys.
The run game did not add much to the offense either, between the two power houses Ezekeil Elliott and Tony Pollard they only combined for 63 total yards rushing.
“We just gotta get the runs.” Elliott told us after practice on Wednesday.
With the loss of their QB1 for a foreseeable future Cooper Rush will be leading the pack until Prescott feels healthy enough to return. Prescott got surgery on Monday morning and is now in a 7-10 day healing process. The right thumb controls his ability to grip the football and when he is strong enough to be able to grip and throw the ball he will return.
Jerry Jones told 105.3 the fan that he might only be out two or three weeks but nobody really knows when he will be returning at this time.
Rush played in one game last season against the Minnesota Vikings where he led his team to a comeback 20-16 win in the final seconds of the fourth quarter.
“Personally I know Coop knows his s—. I know he’s on top of the offense. I know he knows it inside out. Maybe not as well as Dak, but very well. So I mean we all got a lot of confidence in Coop and I think last year has a lot to do with that.” Elliott said.
The Cowboys are very confident in Rush’s ability to take over this offense. Mike McCarthy said Rush knows the offense extremely well and he’s ready to go.
Both teams are coming into this game 0-1. Bengals QB Joe Burrow threw five interceptions in their season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He came back in the second half and rallied his team to overtime. Cincinnati came up short 23-20 and they are looking to redeem themselves against the Cowboys.
When asking Dallas’s defense about the many turnovers that the Bengals had in their first game of the season Micah Parsons said, “QB’s never make the same mistakes twice and I’m not expecting the same Joe Burrow this week.”
The Cowboys secondary might be the only thing that we aren’t worried about. Parsons had two sacks against Tom Brady in game one that came on third down forcing the Bucs to settle for field goals. The secondary held the Bucs to 5-of-14 on third down conversions.
The defense held their own against Tampa Bay only giving up one touchdown and 19 total points. If Dallas can get the offense moving we could see a better outcome this Sunday.
These two teams will go head to head in AT&T Stadium at 3:25 PM (CST) on CBS.
