Cooper Rush Remains Undefeated at 3-0 in Career Starts Leading Dallas To A 23-16 Win Over The Giants

NEW YORK, NY – The Dallas Cowboys (2-1) beat the undefeated New York Giants (2-1) on Monday Night Football in New York. The Cowboys disciplined defense and steady offense led Dallas to their second win of the season.

Two touchdowns from Ezekiel Elliott and CeeDee Lamb in the second half helped Dallas beat a 13-6 deficit and pull away with the win. Lamb led in receiving yards with eight catches for 87 yards and one touchdown. Tony Pollard led the running attack with 13 carries for 105 total yards.

Lamb had an unforgivable drop from QB Cooper Rush when he was wide open. For the entire halftime everyone was wondering if Lamb is able to handle the pressure of being the No. 1 WR in Dallas. The second half completely changed their minds after Lamb caught a one handed, left handed catch in the corner of the endzone to give Dallas the lead.

“CeeDee’s our No. 1 receiver, that will never change,’’ Head Coach Mike McCarthy told the media after the game.

Cooper Rush led Dallas to a victory throwing 21-of-31 for 215 total yards and one touchdown. With this win Rush improves to 3-0 on the season and is the first undrafted QB to win each of his first three NFL starts and throw for 750+ yards over those starts since Kurt Warner in 1999 with the Rams.

Back in 2020 the Giants claimed Rush off waivers from the Cowboys and then cut him twice. Rush was out of the NFL for a month before Dallas re-signed him after Dak Prescott’s injury. Rush has been with the Cowboys ever since.

Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan that Rush has “the makeup of a top quarterback, adding, “let me say this he’s certainly playing as well as anybody could have expected.”

The defensive player of the game went to DeMarcus Lawrence who recorded three sacks before leaving the game early due to a left foot injury. He did not return to the game. Lawrence is the first Cowboy to record three sacks in a single game since Aldon Smith in 2020.

The Cowboy’s defense sacked Daniel Jones five times and held New York to just a field goal in the first half. Dallas’s secondary held the Giants to 3-of-11 on third down conversions. The end of the fourth quarter Trevon Diggs seals the deal for Dallas by getting an interception giving the Cowboys the last offensive possession of the game.

Micah Parsons had a quiet day…. For him… but he had been struggling with a cold all week. He didn’t record any sacks in this game but came very close. He told the media after the game that we wanted to play and him playing at 60 percent is better than him not playing at all.

“I’m good enough to play my game and people can’t tell the difference, you know. I think me at 60% is better than most people’s 100s. I don’t care where I’m at. I just want to play.” Parsons said.

The Cowboys have a quick turnover as they will host the Washington Commanders on Sunday at noon CST in AT&T Stadium.
