Dallas Cowboys Fall to Philadelphia Eagles 26-17

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Dallas Cowboys (4-2) came up short to the Philadelphia Eagles (6-0) on Sunday night in a 26-17 loss.

The Eagles had a solid first half taking a 20-0 lead leaving a gaping hole for the Cowboy to fill. Minutes before the first half ended KaVontae Turpin had a 62-yard kick return to give the Cowboys a big spark that led to a field goal before halftime.

“That’s what I do … provide a spark,” Turpin said. “I feel like when the ball is in my hands, I can make a play.”

Turpin had three kickoffs for 96 yards on the night.

With Turpin’s return the Dallas offense got on the board and went into the locker room down 20-3 at the half.

The Momentum completely shifted in the second half and Dallas made it a game. The Cowboys went on a 14-0 run making it a three-point game entering the fourth quarter. Two touchdowns from Ezekiel Elliott and Jake Ferguson sparked hopes that Dallas could come back and win this ball game.

The Eagles solidified the win after scoring one more final touchdown on their closing drive that took up most of the fourth quarter, giving them a 26-17 lead. The Cowboys tried to answer back but their offense was held up forcing Brett Maher to attempt a 53-yard field goal that was not successful.

QB Cooper Rush threw 18-of-38 for 181 yards for one touchdown and had three interceptions. This was Rush’s first three interceptions of the season. He had never thrown an interception in any of his first four starts while replacing QB1 Dak Prescott. With Sunday’s loss the Dallas QB is no longer undefeated and fell to 5-1 in career starts.

“Turnovers kill,” RB Ezekiel Elliott said after Sunday’s game.  “We lost the turnover battle, minus-three. We’ve got to protect the football better.”

Elliott led in the run game with 13 carries for 81 yards rushing and one touchdown. WR CeeDee Lamb led in receiving yards with 5 catches for 68 total yards.

Prior to Sunday night’s game the Cowboys defense only gave up 20 points or less to their opponent. The pass rush that Dallas brings game in and game out is something that other team’s offenses don’t know what to do with. Sunday night Dallas gave up 26 points to their biggest rivals and it weighed heavily on LB Micah Parsons.

“We have to do better for them. I felt like we let them down today. It’s weighing on me heavy because the type of pride I hold for this defense. It hurts a lot.” Parsons told us after the game in the locker room.

It’s no secret that Parsons is the leader of the pack in the front end of Dallas’s defense. He didn’t record any sacks on the night but is never quiet when he is out on the field, forcing Eagles QB Jalen Hurts to think quickly on his feet.

“We’re going to get better from this. Our mistakes, we’re going to learn from them. We got a long way to go. You don’t win championships in six games. We got a long road.” Parsons said.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy was proud of his team and how they fought back. He said his team has resilience and grit.

“I think there is always value when someone cracks you in the jaw and you fight back and have a chance to win the game. That is what this league is all about. And, frankly, you can’t get to where we want to go without going through it.” McCarthy said after the game.

The Cowboys will head back to Dallas to prepare to take on the Detroit Lions (1-4) on Sunday at AT&T Stadium.
