New Heights For Mavs This Season?

DALLAS, TEXAS — It’s game week, and the Dallas Mavericks are getting ready to take on the Phoenix Suns in the season opener Wednesday, October 19th. The Mavs have had two intense practices this past Sunday and Monday as the team knows this is a much anticipated game for the Suns coming off of a loss and losing streak to the Mavs in the playoffs in the Western Semi Finals.

Head coach Jason Kidd stated at Monday’s practice, “We had a great practice and we know Phoenix is ready to play us, but we are ready to play them.” Kidd also commented that he knows that everyone has their predictions and sees the standings the Mavs are in but, “we’re not worried about the standings, we’re worried about ourselves. This is only 1 of 82 games, and we’re going to take it one game at a time.”

Through preseason though, it looks like coach Kidd has the Mavs prepared with a few weapons in hand, specifically having former Suns player JaVale McGee and the new dynamite duo Christian Wood and Luka Doncic. Wood, the new Mavericks big man, is predicted to put up an All-Star season for the Mavericks to reach the highest of heights. Wood represents the most talented offensive player Luka Doncic has played with and if the coaching staff can keep Wood coachable on the defensive end, the Mavericks might be a nightmare of a matchup all season long.
