FRISCO, TX – The Dallas Cowboys took a huge blow to their defense in the fourth quarter of the Detroit Lions game in Week 7 after losing CB Jourdan Lewis to a lisfranc injury that will leave him out for the remainder of the season.
The Cowboys officially announced on Monday that Lewis will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery immediately after the game on Sunday night. The team will place him on injury reserved for the rest of the season.
The injury came right after Lewis’s interception from Lions QB Jared Goff with 8:25 left in the game when Dallas had a 10-6 lead over Detroit. After the interception Lewis needed help getting off the field and eventually was carted into the locker room and did not return to the game.
The interception from Lewis turned into an Ezekiel Elliott touchdown that gave Dallas a 17-6 lead over the Lions with 2:46 left in the fourth quarter.
The Lewis interception was one of two that Dallas grabbed up from Goff on Sunday. His interception put the Cowboys in the position to score and put the game away and that’s exactly what the offense did.
Lewis usually plays slot CB for Dallas and is a very valuable player for the Cowboys. He missed one game earlier in the season to a hamstring injury, he was replaced by rookie DaRon Bland. Bland played against the Washington Commanders and recorded an interception. Bland replaced Lewis for the remainder of the game on Sunday.
“J Lew is a very valued member of our football team…I look at him as one of the keystones of the football team.” Head Coach Mike McCarthy said in Monday morning’s press conference.
“He really represents all the things I love about our defense. He’s tough. He’s smart. He’s a dog-ass competitor. …There is a dude behind that injury, too, and we’ll miss him.” Cowboys defensive coordinator Dann Quinn told the media on Monday.
