Luka Drops 33 On The Jazz In Mavs Win

DALLAS, Texas — What felt like a roller coaster of a game, the Dallas Mavericks were too swift and too fast for the Utah Jazz to keep up with. The 4th quarter is where Dallas gained their spark. Chemistry was right and you could see a clutch team come together. With a final score of 103-100, this now makes the Mavs 4-3 so far this season.

Luka Dončić recorded 33 points, 5 rebounds, 11 assists and 2 steals Wednesday night. Dončić became the first player since 1962-63 — and only the third player in NBA history — to record 30+ points in each of the first 7 games of the season (Jack Twyman, 1959-60; Wilt Chamberlain, 1959-60; Chamberlain, 1962-63; Dončić, 2022-23).

Dončić also passed Michael Jordan (38 games) for 14th place on the NBA’s all-time list of games with 30+ points and 10+ assists. Dončić is now tied with Kevin Johnson and Damian Lillard with 39 instances. Luka also passed Mark Aguirre (2,163) for 10th place on the Mavs’ all-time assists list after recording his 2,165th assist. Dončić upheld his league-leading scoring average at 36.1 points per game, a whole 2.5 points per game ahead of the next closest player, Giannis Antetokounmpo (33.6 ppg).

“I think today was one of the best games I have played. Not forcing a lot, sharing the ball. I think we shared the ball great today. We did have a few turnovers that weren’t very good, or I did, especially at the beginning. But the way we handled the game was pretty good. Utah is a great team, and they are playing amazing right now,” said Dončić.

Head coach Jason Kidd also stated that in the 4th quarter, “the effort was just right. We came together, and saw some good combinations.”

Dallas will be back at home at American Airlines Center this Friday night taking on the Toronto Raptors.
