GREEN BAY, WI – The Dallas Cowboys (6-3) lost to the Green Bay Packers (4-6) on Sunday afternoon in Lambeau stadium after giving up a 14 point lead in the fourth quarter.
The Cowboys led 28-14 at the start of the fourth quarter and what looked like an easy finish for Dallas turned into an overtime loss. Dallas lost a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter for the first time in franchise history. The win for Green Bay stopped a five-game losing streak for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.
It was head coach Mike McCarthy’s first time playing against Green Bay as the Cowboys head coach. McCarthy chose to go for it on fourth-and-3 from Green Bay’s 35 on the opening possession of overtime instead of trying a long field goal. Dak Prescott was pressured by Jarran Reed and threw a desperation pass to Tony Pollard that fell incomplete.
“I’m fine with the decision,” McCarthy said. “Obviously, I know we didn’t convert. Fourth-and-3, we just didn’t convert.”
The Cowboys ended up losing to a field goal in OT.
Ezekiel Elliott did not play again this afternoon due to that knee energy that he got three weeks ago. This was the second game he has missed because of that injury. Due to Elliott out Tony Pollard led the run game for the Cowboys today. He had a career high 22 carries for 115 yards and one touchdown.
CeeDee Lamb also had a tremendous game with 11 carries for 150 yards and two touchdowns. This was Lamb’s first 100 yard game since Halloween last year vs Minnesota.
Dak Prescott had two interceptions tonight that led to 14 points for the Packers. He threw 27-of-46 for 265 yards for three touchdowns.
The issue today was not the offense, which is not what was expected if you have been watching the Cowboys this season. The defense that Dallas prides themselves on being the best in the league did not show that in the fourth quarter and OT in this game.
“Until we (put) out this fire, we’re gonna keep seeing it. If people want to keep doing their own thing, we’re gonna deal with this all year. We have to be accountable. We have to stay in our gaps, gotta stop the run. Until we do that, it’s gonna be a long year.” LB Micah Parsons said after the game.
Dallas will have the chance to redeem themselves next Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.
